KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – If Wednesday’s fishing on Clear Lake was record-setting, Thursday’s action could be truly sublime. Stren Series Western Division competitors will have their sight-fishing eyeballs on and their fat-female nets locked and loaded, because the sun is shining and the wind has let up for day two at this unreal bass fishery.

Whereas a calm takeoff gave anglers a bit of false hope for a sight-fishing day yesterday – the clouds rolled in and wind started blowing later in the morning – there should be no cause for dismay today. The forecast is calling for warmer, sunnier conditions for the next three days.

“If the wind cooperates, it’s on,” 12th-place pro Scott Douglas said.

“I plan on moving in and sight-fishing,” pro leader Sean Stafford said. “If it gets to 70 or 80 degrees like they’re saying it will, that’s where the fish will be.”

With over 5,200 pounds of fish caught by the field yesterday under blustery conditions, it’s truly frightening to consider what they might be able to do today when they can actually fish the way they want.

Anglers make their run on Clear Lake Thursday morning.Needless to say, it’s going to take a massive limit every day to stay in contention this week. The pros needed almost 24 pounds to earn a place at the top-10 table yesterday, and the co-anglers almost 17 1/2 pounds. If the fishing gets even better today – like it should – who’s to say that 45 pounds won’t be the minimum two-day goal for the pros?

Anything’s possible at big, bad Clear Lake.

Day-two weigh-in festivities begin at 3 p.m. Pacific time at Konocti Harbor Resort, located at 8727 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville, on Clear Lake.
