LAGRANGE, Ga. – Nathan Fuller of Hillsboro, Ga., won the Stren Series Southeast Division event on West Point Lake with a two-day total of 9 pounds, 6 ounces.
Fuller’s win can mostly be atrributed to the 7-pound, 13-ounce monster bass he landed Friday, but he still needed the precious keeper weighing 1 pound, 9 ounces that he caught today to fend off a charge from runner-up Thomas Shafer.
Since Fuller was the registered owner of a Ranger boat, he was awarded a Ranger boat in addition to his $5,000 cash prize.
“I had an awesome day fishing with Terry (Tucker) today,” Fuller said. “He is a great guy. He was throwing a bream-colored crankbait, and the only thing I had in that color was a shallow-running speed trap, and that’s what I caught that winning fish on today.”
Shafer of Pine City, N.Y., finished second with a two-day total of 7 pounds, 14 ounces and collected $4,000.
Shafer caught his two keepers today on a spinnerbait and a crankbait.
Rodger Ray of Social Circle, Ga., finished third with a two-day total of 7 pounds, 3 ounces and won $3,500.
Clinton McClure of Gosport, Ind., finished fourth with a two-day total of 6 pounds, 14 ounces for $2,500.
Richard Mitchell of Appling, Ga., finished fifth with a two-day total of 5 pounds, 15 ounces.
