Peterson tops leaderboard at BFL Super Tournament on Old Hickory Lake

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Boater Trent Peterson of Murfreesboro earned $4,410 Sunday as winner of the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Music City Division Super Tournament event on Old Hickory Lake. The tournament earned Peterson 300 points in the Boater Division.

Peterson’s winning catch of six bass weighed 25 pounds, 12 ounces. He earned an additional $1,000 as winner of the Garmin Grand contingency award.

Rounding out the top five pros are Bryan Montgomery of Lebanon (five bass, 18 pounds, 15 ounces, $2,152); Tim Staley of Dowelltown (10 bass, 11 pounds, 13 ounces, $1,050); David Barnett of Murfreesboro (three bass, 11 pounds, 3 ounces, $945); and Thomas Hunnell of Ashland City (four bass, 10 pounds, 13 ounces, $840).

Montgomery earned $680 as the big-bass award winner in the Boater Division with a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass. Frank Lannom (13th place) of Mt. Juliet earned $750 as winner of the Ranger Cup and Powered by Yamaha awards.

Ronald Perry of Portland earned $2,205 as the co-angler winner, thanks to two bass weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Mark Griffin of Gallatin (three bass, 6 pounds, 15 ounces, $1,076); Robert Russell of Smyrna (four bass, 6 pounds, 14 ounces, $525); Scott Clinard of Greenbrier (four bass, 5 pounds, 10 ounces, $472); and Chris Haynes of Nashville (four bass, 4 pounds, 9 ounces, $420).

Bobby Whitson of Brentwood and Van Davidson of Tullahoma tied for the co-angler big-bass award. Each co-angler caught a 2-pound, 4-ounce bass and earned $170.

Following the regular season, the Music City Division boater with the most points will earn $1,000 as the Yamaha “Be the Best” points champion. The co-angler amassing the most points will earn $500 as the Yamaha “Be the Best” points champion in the Co-angler Division.

The top 40 Music City Division boaters and co-anglers based on year-end points standings will advance to the Kerr Lake Regional near Henderson, N.C., Oct. 18-22 where they will compete against Empire, Mountain and Northeast division anglers for one of six slots in the 2006 All-American. With a total purse of $1 million and a potential $140,000 cash prize going to the winning boater and $70,000 going to the winning co-angler, the All-American is one of the most prestigious and lucrative events in bass fishing.

The $8.4 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League features 28 divisions nationwide. In BFL competition, boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired, with boaters supplying the boat and fishing against other boaters and co-anglers fishing from the back deck against other co-anglers.
