GREEN BAY, Wis. – As the top 10 pros and 10 co-anglers prepared for takeoff on the final day at Green Bay, the consensus among the field was that the tournament was Pat Neu’s to lose. The Forestville, Wis., resident, who has five top-10 FLW Walleye Tour finishes, has been in this situation before. In 2003, he led the field after three days of competition on the Illinois River, but faltered on day four and finished in seventh place.
Troy Morris, who currently sits in fourth place, feels Neu’s lead is secure at this point, although anything is possible on this body of water.
“It’s going to be difficult, but I’m going to shoot for it,” he said. Morris went on to say that the early morning bite will be critical to his day’s success. “We had three fish on the first pass yesterday, so we’re hoping for similar results. With less wind, the bite might slow down for everyone else.”
Once again, Neu remained confident in himself while comprehending the task at hand. His day-four spot is located 24 miles from the launch, which he believes can be reached in approximately 30 minutes.
“All I’ve got to do is go out and be consistent,” he said. Neu is confident his fish will bite today despite the lack of wind since he is fishing river water that has a stained color. “If we get left alone, the fish will bite today.”
When asked if fishing with a cameraman in his boat is a distraction, Neu replied, “I’ll take a cameraman in my boat over a Keenan anytime.”
The final weigh-in will take place today at 4 p.m. Central time at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located on West Mason Street in Green Bay. The winners on both the pro and co-angler sides are determined by the largest total weight spanning all four days of competition.
