Clear Lake is a heavenly place, but when springtime rolls around in northern California, the popular mountain fishery comes alive with piscatorial creatures to shock the imagination. That said, every FLW Outdoors record in the books – single-day catch, two-day catch and big bass – will be in danger of being broken when the EverStart Series Western Division makes its annual stop in Lakeport, Calif.

Western Division pro Brent Ehrler said it won’t come as a surprise to see some 40-pound limits at the weigh-in.

“The weather will be the key,” Ehrler said. “If the weather it stays warm, this tournament could shock some people.”

Ehrler predicts the heavier bass will be caught on swim baits and jerkbaits around shallow tules in 2 to 5 feet of water and boat docks as deep as 15 feet. There also could be a good bite on deep-diving crankbaits cast around rockpiles and other structures.
