NATCHITOCHES, La. – The race was on this morning as pros and co-anglers roared up and down the Red River to their primary fishing spots for day two of the Central Division EverStart.

While speed is good when trying to get to a fishing spot, speed might not be so good once anglers get to their fishing spot.

“It’s a hurry-up-and-wait deal,” said Robert Robinson of Mobile, Ala., who leads the event with 18 pounds, 4 ounces. “I want to hurry up and get to my spot, but once I’m there, I have to switch gears and slow down and wait for the fish to bite.”

Robinson was already fishing this morning while much of his competition was still speeding off to far away places on the Red River. He is only fishing some 15 to 20 minutes from the take-off site.

Most of the pros are making journeys north on river from the launch point at Grand Encore boat ramp. Only 30 to 40 boats were seen going south.

Weather wise, anglers will be facing a different day today. Yesterday’s brilliant sunshine will be replaced by clouds and occasional thunderstorms by this afternoon.

This morning, pros were speculating that the top-20 cut will be 18 to 21 pounds.

The weigh-in continues today at the Grand Encore boat ramp at 3 p.m. Central time.
