EUFAULA, Ala. – The last morning of an EverStart Series event is usually illuminated with plenty of smiles. Maybe it comes with the gratification of knowing that if you are still fishing on the last day of an EverStart, it means you have survived three days of fishing and two cuts and you are considered the cream of the crop.

Despite the impending storms bearing down on the Alabama-Georgia border this morning, there were plenty of smiles among the final top 10 pros and 10 co-anglers in the Lake Eufaula Eastern Division event.

Among those smiling big were pro leader Koby Kreiger of Okeechobee, Fla., and third-place pro Jacob Powroznik of Prince George, Va. The two anglers are sharing a shallow-water spawning flat that, in the words of Powroznik, “…has fish coming to it by the droves.”

The swirling southwest winds and dark skies pose little threat to these two anglers’ spinnerbait bite in a protected creek.

“It’s going to be a real shootout today,” Powroznik said. “Only 5 pounds separates the top five, and that’s just one fish on this lake.”

In years past, today’s weights would have started from zero, but this year the EverStart Series adopted a rule that allowed day-three weights to carry over to day four.

“I hope more have moved up,” said a cautiously optimistic Kreiger. “I fished them pretty hard in there yesterday. Normally, I would have stopped at 17 or 18 pounds, but with this carry over deal, I had to get all I could get yesterday.”

The top 10 pros and top 10 co-anglers will face the stormiest day yet of the four-day event. An approaching front is bringing southwest winds up to 20 mph and some rain.

The final weigh-in will be held at the Eufaula Wal-Mart at 4 p.m. CST today.

Saturday’s conditions:

Sunrise: 5:58

Air temperature: 61 degrees

Water temperature: 58 degrees

Wind: southwest 10 to 20 mph

Day’s outlook: storms early and then partial clearing
