Semifinals under way at EverStart Lake Erie

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Feisty thunderstorms rumbled through northern Ohio overnight, but they likely won’t have much of an impact on EverStart Series anglers as they vie to make the top-10 cut in Friday’s semifinal round of Northern Division competition. By takeoff time, clouds remained but the torrential rain had stopped and the wind had died down.

Twenty pros and 20 co-anglers took off from Dempsey State Access at sunrise for the semifinals. They all started the day with zero weight and are fishing in a one-day shootout to make the cut.

While the overnight wind had died down by morning, it has apparently shifted direction. Instead of the southerly breeze seen over the first two days, a north wind is forecasted for western Lake Erie Friday. That will have an impact on the semifinalists who’ve been making long runs eastward along the southern shoreline, making it a little rougher going. It will likely push the bass around somewhat, as well, for many anglers whether they go east or north to the islands.

Friday’s weigh-in begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store located at 4070 East Harbor Road in Port Clinton. The top 10 anglers in each division following today’s action will advance to Saturday’s final round where they will again restart with zero weight.
