Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail, May 10-11

The winner of the Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail’s $205,000 stop on Lake Lewisville in Lewisville, Texas, will likely be the angler who can determine if the bass are still spawning or have gone into their postspawn mode, according to Scott David of Goodrich, Texas. David is a TTT pro and winner of last year’s TTT event on nearby Lake Texoma.

If the bass are still spawning, David suggests concentrating on vegetation in the lake’s many protected coves. His bait of choice is a snag-proof frog, which was instrumental in his victory at Texoma. The water in Lewisville is typically stained, which can make for some excellent angling on secondary points when fished with a black spinner bait outfitted with a single gold Colorado blade.

If the bass are in postspawn patterns, David suggests looking for spawning shad. Shad spawn almost immediately after bass, so the winner on Lake Lewisville may well be the angler who locates them. Just like bass, the shad will move into coves, but they will be against the bank. Chartreuse spinner baits, black and chartreuse/white buzzbaits, and crankbaits in fire tiger can all produce a winning catch.
