EverStart Series Central Division, March 26-29

If weather and water conditions cooperate, the big smallmouths that put this Alabama reservoir on the map will play a dominant role in winning weights for this tournament. Both largemouths and smallmouths will be in the prespawn phase, and both will help one lucky angler claim the top prize.

It won’t be uncommon for anglers to catch both types of bass from the same areas on the same lures. However, anglers who want to target Pickwick’s smallmouths should concentrate on main-lake flats and humps in the lower end of the reservoir. The best largemouth fishing will be in the major creeks in the lower end of the lake. Yellow Creek and Second Creek could be two standouts.

Look for Rat-L-Traps, Rapala Husky Jerks and shallow-diving crankbaits to be the top lures.
