HOUMA, La. – Anthony Kyzar of Houma, La., topped 50 Boater Division competitors on Bayou Black this weekend with a five-bass catch weighing 12 pounds, 12 ounces. He earned $4,004 and 300 points for the win at the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Louisiana Division season finale.
After qualifying for the final round of the two-day Super Tournament in first place with an opening-day catch of five bass weighing 14 pounds, 2 ounces, Kyzar out-fished runner-up Conrad Picou of Carencro, La., by 1 ounce to take the win. Picou qualified for the final round in sixth place with five bass weighing 9 pounds, 9 ounces and finished up with a five-bass catch weighing 12 pounds, 11 ounces to win $2,002.
Paul Rossi or Gonzales, La. (three bass, 8 pounds, 6 ounces, $1,084); C. David Mong of Galliano, La. (four bass, 7 pounds, 14 ounces, $918); and Donald Corey of Ethel, La., (three bass, 5 pounds, 8 ounces, $751) rounded out the top five boaters.
Picou took boater big-bass honors and $500 for a 4-pound, 6-ounce bass. Mong earned a $500 bonus as the highest-finishing participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program.
Bill McCarty of Morgan City, La., topped 50 competitors in the Co-angler Division to take first place and $2,002 thanks to a final-round catch of four bass weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces. Second place in the division and $1,001 went to Paul Carmouche of Baton Rouge, La., with a two-bass catch weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces, followed by Jeremy Moore of Broussard, La., in third place with one bass weighing 3 pounds, 14 ounces worth $542.
Jerry Holmes of Tullos, La., won the co-angler big-bass award of $250 with a 4-pound, 10-ounce bass.
Picou is the Louisiana Division’s Yamaha “Be the Best” points leader, winning $1,000 for the 1,044 points he earned during five regular-season tournaments. Brooke Morrison of Breaux Bridge, La., is the Yamaha “Be the Best” points leader in the Co-angler Division. He earned $500 for his division-leading 1,025 points.
The top 30 boaters and top 30 co-anglers in the Louisiana Division will advance to regional competition Oct. 29-Nov. 2 on Lake Hamilton near Hot Springs, Ark., where they will go up against top competitors from the Okie, Ozark and Gulf Coast divisions for a shot at qualifying for the BFL All-American, one of the most lucrative postseason tournaments in competitive angling.
2002 BFL awards could reach $7 million based on full fields.
