LAUGHLIN, Nev. – Ed Legan of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., topped 51 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League competitors Saturday on Lake Mohave with five bass weighing 15 pounds, 10 ounces. The catch earned him $2,020 and 200 points in the Boater Division.

Legan’s catch topped second-place boater Clayton Meyer of San Diego, Calif., by 1 pound, 10 ounces. Meyer finished the one-day tournament with a five-bass catch weighing 14 pounds worth $1,010.

Jerry Ruehle of Bullhead City, Ariz. (five bass, 13 pounds, 11 ounces, $606); Tim Klinger of Boulder City, Nev. (five bass, 13 pounds, 10 ounces, $485); and David Oechsner of Needles, Calif., (five bass, 12 pounds, 4 ounces, $444) rounded out the top five boaters.

Gregory Halliman of Littlerock, Calif., earned boater big bass honors and $255 with a 5-pound, 13-ounce bass. He finished in 15th place overall with two bass weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

He surpassed second-place co-angler Stoney Stone of Griffin, Ga., by 1 pounds. Stone finished with a four-bass catch weighing 11 pounds, 15 ounces worth $505.

Tony Richards of Vista, Calif. (four bass, 7 pounds, 5 ounces, $303); Steven Plimley of Chandler, Ariz. (two bass, 5 pounds, 10 ounces, $242); and Ron Smith of Huntington Beach, Calif., (one bass, 4 pounds, 5 ounces, $222) rounded out the top five co-anglers.

Beardsley earned big bass honors and $128 in his division with a 4-pound, 13-ounce bass.

The Wal-Mart BFL will visit Lake Mead Sept. 14-15 the Colorado River Division’s season finale, a two-day Super Tournament. Following the tournament, the boater with the most points will be declared the Yamaha “Be the Best” Points Leader and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the most points by the end of the season will receive $500.

The top 30 Colorado River Division boaters and co-anglers will advance to regional competition Nov. 12-16 on Lake Havasu near Lake Havasu City, Ariz., where they will go up against top competitors from the Western Division for a shot at qualifying for the Wal-Mart BFL All-American – one of the most lucrative post-season tournaments in competitive angling.
