Haseker wins Wal-Mart BFL Super Tournament on Ohio River

CANNELTON, Ind. – Ron Haseker Jr. of Louisville, Ky., topped 114 competitors on the Ohio River at Rocky Point this weekend with three bass weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces to win $7,174 and 400 points on the boater side of the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League (BFL) Hoosier Division season finale.

After qualifying for the final round of the two-day Super Tournament in sixth place with an opening day catch of two bass weighing 4 pounds, 9 ounces, Haseker out fished runner up David Spivey of Hamilton, Ohio, by 2 pounds, 14 ounces to take the win. Haseker also won the boater Big Bass Award of $1,140 with a 3-pound, 7-ounce bass on opening day and received a $1,000 bonus from Ranger Boats as the highest finishing participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program.

Spivey qualified for the final round in 17th place with two bass weighing 2 pounds, 10 ounces and finished up with a final round catch weighing 5 pounds, 6 ounces to win $3,587.

Mark Dove of North Vernon, Ind., took third place and collected $1,793 with 5 pounds, 5 ounces. Shad Schenck of Waynetown, Ind., placed fourth and earned $1,555 with 5 pounds, 2 ounces, while Ryan Deal of Haubstadt, Ind., placed fifth and earned $1,435 with 4 pounds, 5 ounces.

” BORDER=”1″ ALIGN=”right”>First place in the Co-Angler Division and $3,462 went to Ken Heckle of Lamar, Ind., who topped 108 competitors with a final round catch of two bass weighing 3 pounds, 4 ounces. Second place in the division and $1,731 went to Eric Herbert of Hanover, Ind., with 2 pounds, 5 ounces, while Randy Coffman of Corydon, Ind., took third place and $865 with 1 pound, 15 ounces.

Daniel Slack of Louisville won the co-angler Big Bass Award of $540 with a 3-pound, 6-ounce bass on opening day.

Ryan Deal of Haubstadt, Ind., landed the Divisional Points Championship and $1,000 with 1,107 points won during five regular season tournaments. T. J. Edwards of Waldron, Ind., landed the Co-Angler Points Championship and $500 with 1,068 points.

The top 30 boaters and top 30 co-anglers in the Hoosier Division will advance to regional competition Oct. 16-20 on the Ohio River near Paducah, Ky., where they will go up against top competitors from the LBL, Plains and Great Lakes divisions for a shot at qualifying for the BFL All-American, which features an estimated purse of $345,000 and ranks as one of the most lucrative post-season tournaments in competitive angling. The top two boaters and co-anglers may also qualify for the Ranger M1 tournament in Mobile, Ala., Feb. 27-March 2, 2002, where they can win up to $1 million in the world’s richest freshwater tournament.

Awards for the 2001 BFL season could reach $5.7 million based on full fields at each tournament.
