Jerry Wade swamps competition to capture Co-Angler Division win on Kentucky Lake

GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Compared to the Pro Division, the Co-Angler Division final was a relative snooze-fest. However, that was just fine with Jerry Wade.

Wade, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., used a dominating performance of 9 pounds, 10 ounces to ensure that there would be no fireworks during the final co-angler weigh-in – dwarfing his nearest competitor by more than 5 pounds.

“I’ve had an excellent tournament this year,” said Wade, who walked away with the top prize of $6,000 despite making only his second career appearance in the EverStart top 10. “I got paired up with some excellent pros – the guys you read about, but rarely ever get a chance to fish with. It feels great. It really does.”

Tony McManus of Madisonville, Ky., took second place after registering a catch of 4 pounds, 9 ounces.

“I think I’ve fished almost everywhere you can fish over the last few days,” said McManus, who won $4,000 for his efforts. “I’ve had great partners who put me on fish. I’ve had a great time. But to tell you the truth, my butt is kind of sore.”

Scott Jones of Louisville, Ky., grabbed third place with a catch of 4 pounds, 7 ounces. Jones received a check for $3,500.

Ken Keyes of Evansville, Ind., finished in fourth place with a catch of 4 pounds, 1 ounce. However, he also finished a little bit wetter than when he started.

“I didn’t really have the keeper bites today,” said Keyes, who walked away with a check for $3,000. “But I fished as hard as I could. And I even went swimming for one fish.”

When pressed for an explanation by tournament director Jerry Stakely, Keyes admitted that he tumbled into the water trying to land a particularly troublesome bass.

“Sure enough, I fell out of the boat,” he said.

Richard Rhodes of Calvert City, Ky., grabbed hold of the fifth spot after recording a catch of 2 pounds, 4 ounces.

“I finished in 30th place after the first day, I was in sixth place after the second day, I finished first yesterday, but today I went down,” Rhodes joked. “But I’ve had a good time and it’s been a pleasure to be here.”

Rhodes won a check for $2,5000.

Clark Morris (sixth) of Gentry, Ark., Wesley Burnett (seventh) of Hot Springs, Ark., Ed Daniel (eighth) of Benton, Ill., J.H. Alphin (ninth) of Chandler, Texas, and Timothy Gill (tenth) of Bloomington, Ind., all failed to catch a fish in the final round. As a result, the final standings for these anglers was based on their collective performance during the first two days of competition.

The next EverStart Series Central Division tournament is scheduled to take place June 6-9 at Lake Ferguson in Greenville, Miss.
