Walmart FLW Tour sophomore Dalton Cooksey of New Concord, Ky., is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee following a single-car accident that took place Wednesday afternoon.

According to Dalton’s father, Tim, Dalton swerved to avoid a deer and collided head-on with a tree. He suffered two broken femurs and was taken into surgary at around 8:30 Thursday morning. Doctors believe the procedure will be completed at around noon, and an update will be provided by the family then.

Tim says Dalton will require a long recovery period.

“He got lucky. He’s very lucky,” Tim says.

Dalton, age 21, recently completed his second full season as a pro on the Walmart FLW Tour.

 

Update, 2:50 p.m. CT

Dalton recently was released from surgery. Doctors say the procedure went well, and they worked on repairing both legs as well as his right knee, which was also injured in the accident. Additional updates will be provided via Facebook.
