It seems that 2014 was a good year for tech junkies who love to fish. Not only did Apple release the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but Lowrance just unveiled its new HDS Gen3 system, which includes a trio of touch-screen units. Best of all, the third generation of HDS technology now allows you to synch data wirelessly with your other devices.

The HDS Gen3 comes in 7-, 9- and 12-inch screen sizes. Built-in wireless connectivity makes it easy to update software and mapping, as well as to connect with mobile devices using the Lowrance GoFree App.

Lowrance also made a couple of changes aimed at increasing the speed of operation: It boosted the processer and tweaked the button and menu systems (borrowing from the industry’s most popular smartphones and tablets) to make it more intuitive. These changes make the unit simpler and easier to operate.

In addition to the hardware, the HDS Gen3 comes with StructureScan HD for side-to-side scanning, DownScan Imaging for near-3-D viewing below the boat, CHIRP Sonar for improved target separation and simple plug-and-play integration with a host of other Lowrance hardware.

HDS Gen3 7-, 9- and 12-inch multi-touch displays are priced at $1,249, $2,049 and $3,149, respectively, not including transducers. Check them out at lowrance.com, or read the full press release here.
