UPCOMING EVENT: Walmart Bass Fishing League - 2015 - Ohio River

Hot Springs to Host 2015 Forrest Wood Cup

The 2015 Forrest Wood Cup will be held in Hot Springs, Arkansas on Lake Ouachita.

Get ready Arkansas because the Forrest Wood Cup is returning to Hot Springs and Lake Ouachita Aug. 20-23, 2015.

FLW and Visit Hot Springs made the official site announcement tonight at the day-three weigh-in of the 2014 Forrest Wood Cup in Columbia, S.C. The event will be held at Bank of the Ozarks Arena, formerly known as Summit Arena.

The Forrest Wood Cup, the tournament that offers the sport’s richest prize, was last held in Hot Springs in 2011, and Scott Martin of Clewiston, Fla., made professional bass-fishing history by becoming the 16th Forrest Wood Cup champion. And in 2007, Folgers pro Scotts Suggs became bass fishing’s first instant millionaire at Lake Ouachita by winning that season’s Forrest Wood Cup.

The 2015 Cup will also be a history-making event – FLW’s 20th Forrest Wood Cup championship.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Lake Ouachita for our 2015 Forrest Wood Cup,” says Kathy Fennel, FLW president of operations. “The previous events that we have held in Hot Springs have all been extremely successful, and the attendance has been fantastic. It made returning to Lake Ouachita an easy decision. The bass-fishing community in Arkansas has always welcomed FLW with open arms, and we’re proud to return for the 20th installment of our championship event.”

“FLW and Hot Springs have a great history together,” adds Steve Arrison, CEO of Visit Hot Springs. “Our audiences for the Forrest Wood Cup and other FLW events have been large and enthusiastic, and we know the 2015 Cup will be greeted with the same enthusiasm and hospitality that FLW has become accustomed to.”

In the 2011 Cup, Martin bucked the trend and mined a school of bass relating to offshore cover and shad. Most of the other top finishers fished shallow for roving wolf packs of bass or around bluegill beds. This time around, the moon will not be full for the event, so the bass relating to bluegill could be harder to find, but the lake still figures to fish well and provide an excellent test to determine a true champion.

Best of all, the Cup will feature the most successful anglers from all of FLW’s tournament series – FLW College Fishing, The Bass Federation, the Walmart Bass Fishing League, the Rayovac FLW Series and the Walmart FLW Tour.

Stay tuned to FLWOutdoors.com throughout the 2015 season to see if your favorite anglers make the cut, then plan on joining us in Hot Springs Aug. 20-23, 2015

Wheeler Regains Lead At Professional Bass Fishing’s Forrest Wood Cup Presented By Walmart

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (Aug. 22, 2015) – Professional angler Jacob Wheeler of Indianapolis, Indiana, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 14 pounds even to regain the lead after day three of the four-day Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Ouachita presented by Walmart. Wheeler, with a three-day total of 15 bass for 41-1, holds a 12-ounce lead over Brad Knight of Lancing, Tennessee, who has a three-day total of 15 bass for 40-5 in professional bass fishing’s world championship that features 50 of the best... Wheeler Back in Front

Jacob Wheeler loves Lake Ouachita. It’s where he fished his first Forrest Wood Cup in 2011, and it’s where he’ll take the tournament lead into the final day of competition at the 2015 Forrest Wood Cup presented by Walmart and hosted by Visit Hot Springs and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. Wheeler, the 2011 Cup champion, led this tournament on day one and slipped a couple spots on day two. He now has a very slim 12-ounce lead over Tennessean Brad Knight. The anglers will square off tomorrow on Ouachita starting at 7 a.m. against the rest of the top 10 pros for the top prize of $500,000. READ MORE »

Top 5 Patterns from the Cup Day 3

Jacob Wheeler may have regained his lead in the Forrest Wood Cup on day three, but Brad Knight is right on his heels. Going into the final day, the two pros are separated by just 12 ounces. The margin is tight, and what’s going to make the final day fun to watch is the difference in the two anglers’ strategies. Wheeler is running a topwater pattern on the main lake, and fishing new water is part of his plan. Knight, however, has caught almost all of his weight from one 250-yard stretch of bass-rich creek channel. He literally knows every target he is fishing by heart. On the surface, Knight’s area looks to be the better bet. But he has shared the general area with Brandon Cobb and Mark Daniels Jr. for three solid days. And the bad news, at least for Knight, is that both Cobb and Daniels will be sharing the water with him again on the final day as both made the top-10 cut. READ MORE »

The Forrest Wood Cup, which is hosted by Visit Hot Springs and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, moves into its top-20 round on Saturday. Top 5 Patterns from the Cup Day 2

At times, bass fishing can be a lot like real estate, where the three most important rules are location, location and location. The 2015 Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Ouachita presented by Walmart is starting to become a bit of a real estate game where location is the primary consideration in who climbs the leaderboard. And those mining the backs of creeks and tributaries are on the prime pieces of real estate. Consider that after day two, four of the top five pros are concentrating their fishing efforts in the back ends of creeks or rivers. All of these areas fit a classic late-summer, early-fall pattern where shad pack into the back of creek ditches that meander through shallow flats. READ MORE »

It was his first and the Forrest Wood Cup’s last. With the Cup going exclusively to professionals next year, Sunny Hawk, like the rest of the co-anglers, knew this was the last chance for someone to be crowned a co-angler Cup champion. While many made a run at the title – including three past co-angler champions – Hawk made the most of it, weighing in three fish for 6 pounds, 5 ounces on day two for a tournament total of 19-11 to claim his first career win. “For my first win to be at the Cup, I’m pretty pumped,” Hawk said while holding the $50,000 first-place check.
