Once I find out where the next season of Walmart FLW Tour events are going to be held, I start loading tackle that I’m going to need for each of those tournaments. These are things I know I’ll use on a particular lake at a certain time of the year. For instance, the first tournament of 2014 will be on Lake Okeechobee in early February, and I’ll pack a big zip-seal bag with baits and other tackle that have worked there in the past. The stuff that I know I’ll throw at Beaver Lake goes into another bag; the same for Pickwick Lake and so forth. That’s not to say I won’t carry a boatload of other lures and what-have-you, but there’s always a core collection of baits that really match up with each lake and the likely conditions.

What I pick or what I cull depends on the time of year when the tournament is scheduled, and what has produced for me before. It’s just something I do to be prepared so I don’t have to wait until the last minute and then maybe forget some key lures, hooks, weights or whatever as I’m heading out the door.
