The House of Representatives voted Wednesday night to remove the Kingston-McCollum amendment from the 2013 Defense Appropriations Bill. The vote is a victory for the U.S. military, which has effectively used sports sponsorships for years to attract recruits and ensure the highest quality all-volunteer force in the world.
Just days after FLW issued a call to action requesting that members contact their elected officials in opposition to the amendment sponsored by Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., and Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., thousands of e-mails and letters were submitted to Congress.
Your voice was heard. Thank you for your support.
FLW also applauds the seven representatives who spoke in opposition to the amendment and the bipartisan majority that voted to continue to allow the military access to sports properties like FLW that provide valuable national branding impressions and allow recruiters to build rapport with potential recruits based on shared sporting interests and common experiences.
