JASPER, Texas – The EverStart Series is headed to Sam Rayburn Reservoir Feb. 10-12 for the second of four stops in the Texas Division. As many as 300 pros and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $35,000 plus a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Mercury outboard for the pro and a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Mercury outboard plus $5,000 for the co-angler. (Day one of this event was canceled due to weather. Read more about it on the EverStart Series homepage.)

“It’s going to be cold and nasty,” said Rice Krispies Treats pro Jim Tutt of Longview, Texas, who finished eighth in the season opener at Choke Canyon. “The fishermen will be cold, but the fish will be biting. And of course the Rat-L-Trap will dominate.”

Tutt said he expects to see above-average weights for the tournament and predicts anglers will need about 16 pounds a day to make the top-10 cut and a total of more than 58 pounds over the three-day tournament to win it.

“A whole bunch of the fish are shallow,” Tutt said. “The lake is low and conditions are good for a Rat-L-Trap bite just ticking over the grass – typical Sam Rayburn fishing. Excluding the weather the tournament should be good.”

Anglers will take off from the Umphrey Family Pavilion in Sam Rayburn, Texas, at 8 each morning. Weigh-ins will also be held at the Umphrey Family Pavilion beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Walmart located at 800 W. Gibson St. in Jasper, Texas. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Pros will fish for a top award of $35,000 plus a 198VX Ranger boat with 200-horsepower outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award consisting of a Ranger 177TR with 90-horsepower outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.

The EverStart Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of four tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points in each division that could earn them the Angler of the Year title along with $5,000 for the pro and $2,000 for the co-angler. The top 40 pros and co-anglers from each respective division will qualify for the EverStart Series Championship that will be held on Kentucky Lake in Buchanan, Tenn., Oct. 27-30.

The EverStart Series tournament on Sam Rayburn Reservoir is being hosted by the Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce.
