All the major hook companies are making good hooks these days that are supersharp because of the sharpening processes they use.
The ones with the triangular-shaped points have really gotten popular in the last couple of years. They have cutting edges so they penetrate well on the hookset. Still, I prefer a needle-point hook for most fishing. For one thing, you can always resharpen it quickly after it’s become dulled. A triangular hook isn’t so easy to sharpen and probably most guys just toss it when they feel that it’s gotten too dull. Also, I’ve found that a lot of casting causes a triangular-sharpened hook to cut its way out of a soft plastic so that the bait eventually works loose and doesn’t stay in place. To me, a triangular-point hook is better for pitching and flipping at short range; a needle-point is better for casting and skipping.
