Power fishing could prevail again at Walmart Open

Up until yesterday, conditions for the upcoming FLW Tour Walmart Open on Beaver Lake were shaping up to be pretty stable. Water clarities and levels were normal and it looked like things might be very similar to the Walmart Open in May of 2007 when Andy Morgan won.

But big changes are on the horizon at Beaver over the next week. According to Kellogg’s pro Greg Bohannan of Rogers, Ark., his portion of the country received some 5 to 6 inches of rain over the weekend and now the lake is on a fast rise, already coming up some 2 to 3 feet. And with more rain in the forecast, more rising is expected. This could make things more like May of 2008 when Mark Pack won.

“I don’t think it will be near as flooded or dirty as it was last year,” Bohannan said. “But it’s not going to be normal and clear like it was in 2007, either. It will probably be some where in between. This will definitely bring the power fishermen back into favor as there should be plenty of flooded bushes in the water come tournament time.”
