Brett Carlson guest blog: Fritts breaks single-day weight record

November 20, 2008 • MLF • Archives

Fresh off a victory at the final FLW Series BP Eastern Division event on Clarks Hill Lake, Chevy pro David Fritts is at again. Today, he sacked a 37-pound, 2-ounce limit to lead day one of the FLW Series East-West Fish-Off on Falcon Lake.

Fritts’ 37-2 narrowly eclipses James Strickland’s 37-0 (Texas Tournament Trail 2007 Lake Amistad) for the heaviest five-bass stringer in the history of FLW Outdoors, regardless of circuit. Moments later, Terry Bolton weighed a stringer that went 37 pounds, 5 ounces. He would have the all-time record if not for an 8-ounce dead-fish penalty that dropped him to 36-13.

In third place overall (Fish-Off has head-to-head format) is BASS Elite Series pro Greg Hackney. Hackney currently has a 25-pound lead over his Western Division opponent and could be the second BASS heavyweight, along with pro Michael Iaconelli, to qualify for the 2009 Forrest Wood Cup.

All total, the Fish-Off will send 30 pros to Pittsburgh in July. Stay tuned to see who qualifies for the richest tournament in professional bass fishing.
