Andy Montgomery’s rise on the Wal-Mart FLW Tour has been meteoric. He was the best from the back of the boat as Co-angler of the Year in 2006, his first year on tour, and he cracked the top 10 as a rookie pro this year. The awards keep piling up, as he can now add Eagle Claw Hook Set Award winner to his resume.

Montgomery created a name for himself from the back of the boat by picking up four top-10 finishes, including the year-end championship, en route to the 2006 Co-angler of the Year title. In his first year as a tour-level pro, the Blacksburg, S.C., native is currently ranked seventh in the Wal-Mart FLW Series BP Eastern Division, and he placed fifth during the FLW Tour’s Wal-Mart Open on Beaver Lake.

Pro Andy Montgomery of Blacksburg, S.C., only brought in four keepers today and now sits in third place with 20 pounds, 13 ounces. It was on Beaver Lake where Montgomery beat out fellow touring pros J.R. Beehler, who finished in third, and Jacob Powroznik, who placed fourth, in a landslide for the Hook Set Award. Those casting online ballots in the contest made Montgomery the winner after viewing fishing footage from Beaver Lake that appeared both on the “FLW Outdoors” TV show on FSN (Fox Sports Net) as well as at FLWOutdoors.com. For his impressive hook set, Montgomery earned a $500 Wal-Mart shopping card.

Eagle Claw Hook Set Award voters were able to choose from video footage of three pro anglers’ hook sets as captured by camera crews during the May 17-20 FLW Tour event – the Wal-Mart Open – on Beaver Lake near Rogers, Ark. The contest and award are presented by Eagle Claw. Go to the Eagle Claw Hook Set Award now to vote for your favorite hook set from the tour event at the Potomac River.

FSN provides FLWOutdoors.com with video footage of three of the best hook sets from each FLW Tour event throughout the season. The hook sets are seen on FSN’s “FLW Outdoors” program, which airs Sundays at 11 a.m. Eastern, and are then viewable at FLWOutdoors.com. After voting has closed for a given contest, the winner will be announced on television and through this Web site.

The Hook Set Award contest is free and open to anyone 21 years of age or older who wants to go online to vote for their favorite footage. Use this article to link to the contest or access it through the graphic link midway down FLWOutdoors.com’s home page.
