Angling legend to uncover winning secrets on `FLW Outdoors’

For Larry Nixon, the chance to work on “FLW Outdoors” television seems like a good idea. The pro bass legend out of Bee Branch, Ark., has competed on the Wal-Mart FLW Tour since 1998 – and won twice, including the tournament at Lake Wheeler, Ala., last year – and he has hosted his own show on the Outdoor Life Network for the last three years. Larry Nixon on “FLW Outdoors” TV: It just seems to fit.

What Nixon brings to the show is a seemingly bottomless well of fishing knowledge, knowledge he will use to get to the bottom of the FLW Tour’s winning patterns and techniques.

“My role on the show is that I’m going to try to get the goods out of the guys who do well,” he says. “I’m going to look for the little things that most of the viewing audience might never see. It’s going to be basically the same thing I was doing on my own show.”

Nixon likes the idea of on-location shooting for the show because it brings viewers closer to the action. He hopes his experience and accessibility will further bridge the gap between the average fishing fan and tournament pro.

“I think it’s going to be a whole lot more realistic for the anglers,” he says. “And with me being a fisherman myself, I should be able to weasel their secrets out of them somehow. That’s my role, and I’m looking forward to it.”
