Fall fishing for a great cause is on tap for anglers entered in the Everett Chevrolet Big Bass Event Oct. 10 on Beaver Lake. For a $50 entry fee, competitors have the chance to win $5,000 for the overall biggest bass weighed in, $2,000 for second place overall as well as cash prizes for the top-4 hourly big bass winners.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the EOA Children’s House, which is dedicated to stopping child abuse.

“This is our fifth year,” says FLW Tour pro Greg Bohannan, who started the event. “So far we’ve averaged more than $12,000 raised per year with 300 participants, and nobody but the Children’s House gets a dime off it.

“It gets bigger and better every year. I have to do it in the fall so I have time to actually work on it, so we lose a few folks because its archery season in Arkansas, but it’s a really good time.”

This year, in addition to the fishing, competitors will also be engaged in a “duck hunt.”

“Travis Fox actually came up with that idea,” explains Bohannan. “He got me 100 Flambeau decoys and businesses around town generously offered to sponsor them. We’ll scatter the decoys around the lake the night before the tournament and if you find one when you’re fishing you can bring it to weigh-in for a prize worth at least $25.”

In addition to the adult division, there’s a free division for youths 14 and younger, with prizes for the top 10. Though the weigh-ins and festivities take place at Prairie Creek Marina, competitors can start fishing from any launch on Beaver Lake.
