The FLW media staff brought a few Rangers over to Lake Ouachita for this week’s festivities, so we decided to take one for a drive around the lake to get a feel for what the anglers will be facing this week. Here is what we found.

The 19th Forrest Wood Cup will take off right here at Brady Mountain Marina on Lake Ouachita on Thursday where 50 pro and 50 co-anglers will fish in the biggest tournament of their lives.

This place is beautiful. From almost any spot you can see hills and valleys in every direction. What a special place for guys like Scott Suggs, George Cochran and Stetson Blaylock to live.

But don't be fooled but the scenery. This place is full of standing timber, which has proven treacherous for some of our anglers this week. However, fish do live in these trees, and if a pro can figure out how to catch them, those fish might be worth $500,000.

Hey! We found Shin Fukae. Shin was using spinning tackle and targeting what looked like was an offshore brush pile. We will see lots of anglers probing the depths of Lake Ouachita for a limit of bass this week. If you look closely you can also see Shin's wife, Miyu, sleeping in the passenger seat. ?

Just around the corner from Shin we found Scott Canterbury also fishing in a similar fashion.

The bream are still bedding. We scared a few off these beds, but they were eager to get back to guarding their nests.

The water continues to fall here on Lake Ouachita. Even though the cover that anglers found weeks ago is now high and dry, they might find new ambush points such as this fallen tree.

Many places on the lake have very interesting looking terrain.

The heat was getting to us, and we didn't bring enough water so we found a marina to buy a few drinks. A few anglers were doing the same.

Adrian Avena and Troy Morrow discuss the fishing as Avena eats some ice cream. This is what you call “dock talk.”

Troy Morrow wanted us to see his best catch of the day - a 10-foot-long crappie rod that someone lost over the side of the boat.

It looks like John Cox is fishing offshore, but in reality the bank is only a cast away.

The grass is really making a comeback this year on Lake Ouachita. You can find large areas of matted grass in some parts of the lake.
