Dealing with finicky bass wasn’t the main problem for the 98 anglers fishing in the Walmart Bass Fishing League All-American hosted by the Henry County Alliance on Kentucky Lake this morning. Though the anglers definitely seemed to be having their issues with the fish, it was the wind that caused the biggest obstacle for spot-hopping anglers running their milk runs north and south.

Day one opened with the contenders catching bass almost as soon as they set down on their first fishing holes; day two fishing was much slower, and some of the fishermen who were culling by midmorning on Thursday were scrambling for limits today.

Among those who do have limits, however, are tournament leader Bobby Padgett, Billy Schroeder, who is in fifth place, Jeff Johnston, who is tied for sixth place with 21-10, and Zack Grounds.

A front passed through the area in the wee hours of the morning and although it didn’t dump much rain, it left behind gale-force winds that are sweeping the lake from the south – and building. Fortunately, the competitors are fishing out of identical Ranger Z520c Comanche boats, which can handle the whitecaps. The real difficulty for the anglers is setting up on their ledge spots and staying in place long enough to fish effectively.

Some are better at it than others, as this afternoon’s weigh-in will demonstrate. The weigh-in begins at 3 p.m. CT at Paris Landing State Park Marina, and will be shown live on flwfishing.com.
