GALLATIN, Tenn. – Anthony Nash of Quebeck, Tenn., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 18 pounds, 12 ounces Saturday to win the fourth Walmart Bass Fishing League Music City Division tournament of 2014 on Old Hickory Lake. For his victory, Nash earned $2,838.
“I started out shallow flipping a jig around wood and caught a limit pretty quickly,” said Nash, who earned his first career win with FLW. “Then, I went out into the main lake and fished a couple of brush piles in 10 to 12 feet of water and caught two that weighed over 5 pounds. I stayed out there for about an hour and a half after that and didn’t catch anything else so I ran up the lake to an area around Spring Creek.
“I went shallow and started swimming a 1/2-ounce homemade swim jig with a swimbait for a trailer,” Nash continued. “I caught about 20 keepers, and another 5-pounder there. I was swimming the jig on channel swings that dropped from about 5 feet to 8, and I had the boat in about 10 feet of water.
“It felt good to win,” finished Nash. “I have fished four tournaments in a row on Old Hickory and I knew there were some good fish biting. I’ve had some bad luck in the past, but I finally got the monkey off of my back.”
Nash said that the jig he flipped shallow was a green-pumpkin-colored 3/8-ounce D & L Tackle Advantage Jig with an 8-inch Zoom Lizard for a trailer.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 9-11 Regional Championship on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Ala. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
