COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW presented the 2014 Student Angler Federation (SAF) Ohio High School Fishing State Championship. The championship took place Saturday, May 10 at Alum Creek State Park with 35 teams from across the state participating.

The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Each team is accompanied on the water by their “coach” who is also the boat operator.

The tournament festivities kicked off Friday, May 9 with the angler welcome meal, tournament check-in and rules meeting.

The anglers launched and began the tournament at 6:15 a.m. and weighed-in at 3:00 at Alum Creek, Galena Ramp. Despite the rainy weather conditions on Saturday the anglers where able to fish a great tournament.

The top three teams that qualified and advanced to the Regional Championship:

1st: Morgan High School – Reece Eddleblute and Randy Denny, five bass, 11-8

2nd: Gallia Academy – Haleigh Caldwell and Jalea Lyons, five bass, 10-7

3rd: Cincinnati Youth Bass Club – Alex Redwine and Harbor Lovin, five bass, 9-4

The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field will advance to a High School Fishing conference championship along with the top 3 teams from each of the six 2014 High School Fishing Opens that coincide with the 2014 Walmart FLW Tour. The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, coinciding with the TBF National Championship and an FLW Tour stop in the spring of 2015. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.
