Redington partners with Boy Scouts of America

IRVING, Texas -The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is pleased to announce a partnership with Tom Redington, professional bass angler fishing the FLW Tour and host of “Big Bass Battle” on NBC Sports and World Fishing Network (WFN).

“The traditions of the Boy Scouts of America are synonymous with fishing and the outdoors, so this partnership is a natural fit,” said Redington. “As the father of a Tiger Scout and as a volunteer for the organization, I am looking forward to sharing my passion for the outdoors with our nation’s youth.”

Redington is currently in his fifth year as a professional on the FLW Tour. In addition to hosting “Big Bass Battle,” he also serves as a bass fishing guide on the world famous Lake Fork, located in East Texas. The partnership with Redington is sure to further increase interest in fishing for many of the BSA’s 2.6 million youth members.

The BSA plans to use the FLW Outdoors relationship to teach Scouts about the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) aspects of the outdoors and fishing and to encourage young people to become active in the outdoors. Tournament fishing is a rapidly growing sport, especially at the high school and college level, so the BSA’s fishing program gives members a head start for competing at these levels. This new partnership will give Scouts inside access to cutting-edge techniques and trends in fishing, through exclusive online content from Redington.

“Outdoor adventures such as fishing are a fun way for Scouts to complete challenges and learn life skills,” said Wayne Brock, Chief Scout Executive of the BSA. “We are excited to partner with Tom Redington because he embodies the values and integrity of our Scouts and is a great example of the outdoor skills and the good stewardship of the outdoors that the BSA works to instill in its young people.”

Since 1910, the BSA has been a positive force in conservation and environmental efforts. Scouts have rendered distinguished public service by helping to conserve wildlife, energy, forests, soil, and water. Past generations of Scouts have been widely recognized for undertaking conservation Good Turn action projects in their local communities. The BSA currently offers three fishing-related merit badges that may be earned by Scouts: Fish and Wildlife Management, Fishing and Fly-Fishing.
