Cowboy Division event set for Feb. 2
The 2013 Walmart BFL season continues with the first tournament of the Cowboy division on Saturday, Feb. 2, on Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in each event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.

Notes: The month of February marks a turning point in the bass behavior at Sam Rayburn Reservoir. As the water temperatures begin to warm, waves of lunker bass will be making their way up to the shallows to spawn. Rising water levels combined with slightly warmer-than-average air temperatures have allowed the hydrilla and other vegetation to grow back to its full potential. These healthy grass beds provide excellent habitat for transition bass and anglers should expect to be enticing them with reaction-type baits, such as lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits. At this time of the year, covering a lot of water is often the safest bet to get five good fish in the boat.
Walmart BFL overview
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2013 BFL All-American is being held June 27-29 on Nickajack Lake in Chattanooga, Tenn. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
