LA CROSSE, Wis. – Brandon Gann of Sparta, Wis., had a two-day total of 10 bass that weighed 32 pounds, 1 ounce to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Great Lakes Division Super Tournament on the Mississippi River Sunday. For his victory, Gann earned $5,517.
According to Gann, the frog bite is typically how tournaments are won on the Mississippi River near La Crosse. However, a cold front rolled through the area and he made some key adjustments targeting points in Pool 8 of the Mississippi River to get his victory.
“I was targeting points with XCalibur rattle baits with Yank’Em jigs in the morning and flipping grass in the afternoon,” said Gann. “I think the cold front pushed the fish shallow which really helped my bite. About 90 percent of my fish came in water that was 1 to 3 feet deep.”
