KUTTAWA, Ky. – David Young of Mayfield, Ky., weighed a two-day total of 10 bass for 41 pounds, 8 ounces to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League LBL Division Super Tournament on Lake Barkley in Kuttawa, Ky., on Sunday. For his victory, Young earned $7,460.

“I had a few days of practice coming into this event,” said Young. “I was able to determine that there were a couple of different patterns in play. It was really a mixture of shallow and deep patterns. I fished in the backs of the bays and out on the main lake.

“When I was fishing deep, I was throwing crankbaits – a Norman DD Series and a Strike King XD,” Young continued. “The fish were more schooled up out deep, and you could catch a lot of fish. In the afternoon I would move to the shallow-water pattern. The bite was not as good as out deep, but the fish were bigger and the quality was a little better. I was throwing a buzzbait, spinnerbait and Rat-L-Trap when I fished shallow.

“The key for me in this tournament was my knowledge of the lake,” Young went on to say. “A lot of anglers will sit on a spot for too long and kill it. I tend to fish a little more than others, and it really worked out for me in this event. I was able to cover water and find the different patterns that I needed to get the win.”
