PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The EverStart Series is headed to Lake Champlain July 19-21 when as many as 300 pros and co-anglers take to the water for the second of four stops in the Northern Division. Anglers are competing for top awards up to $35,000 plus a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Mercury outboard for the pro and a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Mercury outboard plus $5,000 for the co-angler.

“Lake Champlain right now has the best bass fishing that I have ever seen in my whole entire career,” said Snapple pro Jacob Powroznik of Prince George, Va., who is fresh off of a second-place finish at the Lake Champlain FLW Tour event. “The heat wave that we’ve had should not slow it down at all. In my opinion the fishing will probably be better.

“Anglers will be running the normal summer patterns on Champlain fishing for both smallmouth and largemouth,” Powroznik continued. “I’ll be fishing this event as well, and it’s no secret that I’ll be making the run to Ticonderoga and targeting those big largemouth. This tournament can be won by fishing the north end, though.”

When asked what baits he would be using the Kellogg’s Angler of the Year runner-up was not at all shy about sharing his secrets.

“It’s no rocket science up here right now,” he said. “It’s going to be the same old stuff. A lot of people will be catching them on a frog. The topwater bite should be hot. A lot of people will catch them cranking. If I was going after the smallmouth I’d be drop-shotting with a tube. The fishing is so good right now that they will bite almost anything. I predict that it’s going to take 58 pounds to win this event.”

Anglers will take off from the Dock Street Landing at 5 Dock Street in Plattsburgh, N.Y., at 6 a.m. daily. Thursday and Friday’s weigh-ins will be held at the marina beginning at 2:00 p.m. Saturday’s final weigh-in will be held at Walmart located at 25 Consumer Square in Plattsburgh starting at 3:00 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Pros will fish for a top award of $35,000 plus a Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award consisting of a Ranger 177TR with 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.

The EverStart Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of four tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points in each division that could earn them the Strike King Angler of the Year title along with $5,000 for the pro and $2,000 for the co-angler. The top 40 pros and co-anglers from each respective division will qualify for the EverStart Series Championship that will be held on the Ouachita River in Monroe, La., Nov. 1-4.

The EverStart Series tournament on Lake Champlain is being hosted by the City of Plattsburgh and the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau.
