SENECA, S.C. – Greg Glouse of Liberty, S.C., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds even Saturday to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division event on Lake Keowee. For his victory, Glouse earned $5,133.

“I got a really good start early,” said Glouse. “I caught a 5 pounder early that morning, and right there I knew it was going to be a very good day. The weather was cold and windy, and it made for some tough fishing. The winds were gusting up to 35 to 40 miles per hour. You really had to try to get out of the wind, or stay on top of the trolling motor to fish. ”

“I started out fishing shallow in the morning, and as the sun got higher I moved out and fished deep for the rest of the day,” Glouse continued. “We were fishing deep, from 40 to 60 feet. I was using a drop-shot rig and a Zoom Finesse Worm. I also caught a few fish with a Saluda River Custom Tackle Shaky Head. Between my co-angler and I, we put 15 fish in the boat.

“That’s about an average catch for Guntersville in February,” Glouse went on to say. “I had predicted to some friends before the tournament that it was going to take around 14 pounds to win this tournament, so the bags were a little better than I had expected.”
