Subtle tactics for McIntosh

Dawson Lenz and Dalton Anderson celebrate their victory for McIntosh High School.

AUBURN, Ala. (Sept. 10, 2011) - Dalton Anderson and Dawson Lenz from Georgia's McIntosh High School won the High School Southeast Regional tournament held on Lake Harding Saturday. TBF along with FLW Outdoors held the high school tournament in conjunction with the FLW College Fishing Southeast Regional. McIntosh High School had four bass weighing 5 pounds, 15 ounces to beat Fuquay-Varina High by 1 pound, 15 ounces. Lenz said the team used a Texas-rigged green pumpkin Senko weightless in the grass as well as aMcIntosh high Texas-rigged 8-inch Lake Fork ribbontail worm with a 3/16-ounce bullet weight to catch their fish Saturday. "During practice we were flipping with a Speed Worm and today we switched to a Senko to try and draw more subtle bites because the lake," he said. "This cold front that came through this week really put a hurtin' on the fish, so we tried to get as many bites as we could. We knew it was going to be tough so we went ahead and switched to more sublte baits and that worked out pretty well for us." Lenz described his team's strategy: "We had Dalton throwing the Senko on the bow and I was in the back flipping into grass, so we covered two different zones of water. It seemed to work out for us and we tried to capitalize on every opportunity we had." Michael Beverley and Michael McDonald took home second place for Fuquay-Varina High.Rounding out the top five teams were: 2nd: North Carolina's Fuquay-Varina High, Michael McDonald and Michael Beverley, four bass, 4-0 3rd: Alabama's Vernon High School, Kophen Sudduth and Dillon Tucker, two bass, 2-14 4th: Mississippi's Houlka Attendance Center, Blake Galloway and Dillon Easley, one bass, 1-0 5th: South Carolina's T.L. Lake Texoma Midday Report Day 1

Early goings on Lake Texoma seem to be pretty tough for the Rayovac FLW Series field. From the water, FLW Website Content Manager Jesse Schultz reported seeing several anglers bed-fishing in the GrandPappy Point Resort & Marina area. Most were putting in a lot of time on each fish, which means the bass weren’t exactly snapping. Today’s calm, sunny, post-cold front conditions are, no doubt, helping anglers see their targets clearly, but the visibility works both ways. Someone’s going to find the right bank with just enough water tint to relax the fish and deliver a nice sack, but it’s likely that many will struggle through a tough day. READ MORE »

This is Arey’s second consecutive Beaver Lake FLW Tour victory. Arey’s four-day total was 55-06, earning the pro $125,000. READ MORE »

Morgan Maintains His Lead

One of Andy Morgan’s fishing mottos is to make the best of what you have got “in front of you” to survive and fish another day. Beaver Lake doesn’t give much. So when an angler as resourceful as Morgan gets to a lake that doesn’t give out many resources, the two work well together. Instead of worrying about hitting it out of the park or putting immense pressure on himself to come up with a grand winning strategy, Morgan just scraps, scrapes and claws at the ground right in front of him, making the best of what he’s got. Morgan’s performance on day three of the Walmart FLW Tour event presented by Rayovac on Beaver Lake was a prime example of his “make the best of it” attitude. After burning up the spawning fish he had located in practice during the first two days of the tournament, he was forced to fish by the seat of his pants today – something he thoroughly enjoys. Andy Morgan didn’t light up the world on day three of the Walmart FLW Tour event presented by Rayovac on Beaver Lake, but he caught what he needed to maintain the lead and put a 1-pound, 9-ounce cushion between he and Matt Arey. Most of the rest of the top 20 scrambled today, abandoning their patterns and trying new options to try and make the final-day cut. Here’s how the top five got it done. READ MORE »
