CLAYTON, N.Y. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to 1000 Islands July 23 for the third of five stops in the Northeast Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“There might be a few fish left on beds,” said Duracell/Gillette pro Jacob Powroznik of Prince George, Va. “But the majority of fish are going to be in their summer patterns and starting to school. The key is going to be finding an area with the big schooling fish. You won’t win with 2 1/2 pound bass, you need to be looking for those 3 1/2 to 4 pound fish.

“The tournament can be won with either small- or largemouth bass, it just depends on what size fish you can find,” Powroznik continued. “The smallmouth are going to be by the big boulders and rocks, I would use Senkos and frogs to catch them. If a guy can find some thick matted grass he can try flipping for the largemouth. It should take about 17 to 20 pounds to win.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at French Creek Marina located at 250 Wahl Street in Clayton, N.Y. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
