SENECA FALLS, N.Y. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Cayuga July 9 for the second of five stops in the Northeast Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“The fish have just gotten finished spawning, so they’ll be guarding fry,” said Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes pro Dave Lefebre of Union City, Pa. “It’s a pretty good mixture of largemouth and smallmouth, but you can definitely win it with a bag of smallmouth with a good largemouth kicker.

“The fishing this time of year is usually grass oriented,” Lefebre added. “There’s a lot of flats with holes in the grass or rocky spots. White spinnerbaits and topwater baits are good. It’s a power-fishing deal. You don’t have to get out the drop-shot rig.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Cayuga Lake State Park located at 2678 Lower Lake Road in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
