GADSDEN, Ala. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Neely Henry June 18 for the fourth of five stops in the Bama Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
“I love fishing on Neely Henry,” said Folgers pro Scott Suggs of Bryant, Ark. “It fishes just like the Arkansas River. It is just a really fun place to fish. Anglers are going to have to make the most of their decisions based on how much water they are running.
“This time of year I would target the large spotted bass with tubes, shaky heads and Pop-Rs,” Suggs continued. “Look for breaks in the current. You might see some early buzzbait action with the largemouth. But it’s probably going to take 17 to 20 pounds to win.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Coosa Landing located at 200 Lake St. in Gadsden. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Neely Henry BFL tournament is being hosted by the Gadsden Parks & Recreation.
The Walmart BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
