Arkansas River site of upcoming Okie Division tournament
MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Arkansas River June 18 for the fourth of five stops in the Okie Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
“The river is going to be on fire,” said Diet Mountain Dew pro Jason Christie of Park Hill, Okla. “The main river has been so high and so muddy that the fish haven’t seen a bait in over a month. Now that the river is clearing, they’ll be biting at anything.
“You can lock up or lock down; it really doesn’t matter. The tournament can be won in either pool,” Christie continued. “Booyah spinnerbaits or square bill crankbaits would be what I would use. All the fish are going to be about 3 feet or less. Rocks, wood or weeds, they’ll all work.”
Christie believes that it will take about 18 to 19 pounds to win on the Arkansas River.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Three Forks Harbor located at 5201 Three Forks Road in Muskogee. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Arkansas River BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Walmart BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy.
