GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Old Hickory Lake June 11 for the fourth of five fishing tournaments in the Music City Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be fishing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Old Hickory is mainly a shallow-water fishery,” said Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City, Tenn. “The offshore structure there is 5 feet deep. That being said, the guy that wins will probably win it offshore. But it’s definitely not your typical ledge-fishing deal.”

Strader said that most fishermen who opt to fish the shallows will have luck with a small crankbait or by flipping.

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Bulls Creek Access located at 200 Odums Bend Rd. in Gallatin, Tenn. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Old Hickory Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Sumner County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
