WARSAW, Mo. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Truman Lake June 4 for the fourth of five stops in the Ozark Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
“The fish pretty much spawned during the last full moon a week ago,” said Chevy pro Dion Hibdon of Stover, Mo. “Anglers are going to want to fish around pods of fry up along the banks near bushes or patches of grass. Those mammas just had babies and they are going to be hungry and protecting their fry. The key is going to be finding the big female and their patterns change quickly.
“Tubes, jigs and chatterbaits should all work well,” Hibdon went on to say. “You can never go wrong with a big 10 inch worm on Truman. Buzzbaits will work good under cloud cover as well.
“It has been a cool, wet spring and the water is up a little,” Hibdon continued. “I still think the majority of fish will be caught in five feet or less. Anglers should key in on spawning areas, it is going to be a typical post spawn tournament.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Long Shoal Marina located at 12730 Steamboat Road in Warsaw. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
