EUFAULA, Ala. – For most, the sunrise that graced the day-two takeoff of the EverStart Series on Lake Eufaula was spectacular. But for a handful of pros who used a shad-spawn bite to propel themselves to the top of the leaderboard on day one, the quick dawn this morning may not have been such a welcome sight.

That’s because yesterday’s cloudy, windy, balmy morning was much more conducive to the shad-spawn bite than brilliant rise into a cool, crisp bluebird sky today.Tournament leader Straight Talk pro Scott Canterbury is fired up and ready to go on day two.

The shad are still spawning in some areas on Lake Eufaula and the bass know it. When swarms of shad get on shallow rock or grass, it’s an easy meal for bass – and an easy catch for bass anglers.

Yesterday, several pros in the top-10, including leader Scott Canterbury, reported getting their day off to a good on shad spawns and without that balmy gray dawn they may have had a much tougher day.

The weather this morning was about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday and it’s forecasted to been sunny and bright with little wind. Not having a couple hours of that first-light feeding could put a dent in the catches today.

Friday’s conditionsIf your going to fish the shad spawn, you need something that looks like, well, a shad. Koby Kreiger shows off a Wee Bait custom painted by Craig Powers.

Temperature at takeoff: 52 degrees

Expected high temperature: 78 degrees

Water temperature: 78 degrees
