Walmart BFL Choo Choo Division heading to Lake Guntersville

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville April 9 for the third of five stops in the Choo Choo Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Fishing Guntersville is always good,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “I always enjoy fishing there the last week of March and the first week of April. The grass has kind of taken hold real good and started growing real good. It’s a fun time because there are a lot of fish spawning and getting ready to spawn.”

Newton said he prefers to target staging fish in early April that can be found on points and in spawning coves. He said he likes to throw a lipless crankbait, jig or soft plastic bait during tournaments at that time.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Waterfront Tackle and Grill at Goose Pond located at 417 Ed Hembree Drive in Scottsboro, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Guntersville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for the regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
