KINGSTON, Tenn. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Watts Bar Lake March 19 for the first of five stops in the Volunteer Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“There might be fish caught, but then again it might be a little tough,” said Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City, Tenn. “The water’s up, and it’s a little muddy. But there will be some good sacks, and it will take somewhere around 20 pounds to win it.”

Strader said anglers, for the most part, will be fishing very shallow in the high, muddy water and will rely heavily on jigs and reaction baits such as spinnerbaits for their fish.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Ladd Park located in Kingston, Tenn. Takeoff is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for the regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
