BROKEN BOW, Okla. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Broken Bow March 12 for the first of five stops in the Okie Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“The key to winning this tournament is going to be locating the fish, once you locate them they won’t be hard to catch,” said Diet Mountain Dew pro Jason Christie of Park Hill, Okla. “The fish run in size packs so part of the challenge will be in not getting hung up catching small fish all day thinking you have it made. There are a lot of 2 to 2 1/2-pounders in Broken Bow, just don’t get suckered into thinking that you’ve won it with the smaller fish just because you can catch 50 in a day. You’re going to have to find a bigger fish to win. Look for those seven or eight quality bites.

“I would try and find staging areas, maybe target some points with jerkbaits,” Christie went on to say. “If the weather stays warm shallow water fishing with crankbaits and jigs would be the way to go. It will take 17 to 18 pounds to win this thing.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Beavers Bend Resort located at Highway 259 North Carson Creek Access in Broken Bow. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Broken Bow BFL tournament is being hosted by the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
