BROWNDELL, Texas – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Sam Rayburn Reservoir March 12 for the second of five stops in the Cowboy Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Fishing should be really good right now because the fish are starting to spawn,” said Kellogg’s pro Jim Tutt of Longview, Texas. “It’s probably going to take about 27 pounds to win this thing, I think you will even see a 10-pounder come to the scales. The lake is about six feet low so crowding might be an issue.

“The fish will be caught a variety of ways. Rat-L-Traps will still work, you’ll see more senkos and Texas Rig lizards come into play as well,” Tutt went on to say. “The key is the hydrilla. Look for the grassy shallow water where the fish are starting to spawn and you will have a super good tournament.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Twin Dikes Park located at 4842 Recreation Road, 255 West in Browndell. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Sam Rayburn BFL tournament is being hosted by the Jasper/Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
