BRYDSTOWN, Tenn. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Dale Hollow March 12 for the first of five stops in the Music City Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Fishing is going to be really tough,” said Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City, Tenn. “They have made Dale Hollow a trophy smallmouth lake and the slot limit for the smallmouths really makes it tough. If you can get one smallmouth over the 21” limit you will be in good shape, but that is way easier said than done.

“The key to this tournament is going to be catching a mixed bag, maybe three largemouths and two smallmouths. The largemouth bite is going to be tough too because the water temperatures are still pretty cold so the fish are pretty lethargic. All the rain has really muddied up the water as well,” Strader added. “I would stick to the backs of creeks and look for that warmer, clearer water. Crankbaits and jigs will be the primary ways to catch fish; you might also see someone drop-shotting for spotted bass.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Star Point Resort located at 4490 Star Point Road in Byrdstown. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Dale Hollow BFL tournament is being hosted by the Star Point Resort.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
