GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville Feb. 12 for the first of five stops in the Choo Choo Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“You know, it’s been unseasonably cold lately, but the fishing is going to be pretty good,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “If the water temperatures warm up to close to the mid-40s, the fish will bite and heavy weights will be brought in.

“Guys will be able to catch them on a spinnerbait, jerkbait, Rat-L-Trap or a small crankbait, targeting grass in 5 to 10 feet of water,” Newton added. “It will be a good event.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Val-Monte Lakeside Resort and Marina located at 7000 Val-Monte Drive in Guntersville, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Guntersville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for the regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
